“Camel trekking in Altai mountains” adventure tour itinerary
Khovd is distinguished by its multi-cultural ethnicity with population of 89,000. It is home to more than 17 nationalities and ethnicities. Each of these groups has its own distinct traditional dwelling and settlement pattern, dress and other cultural distinctions, literary, artistic, and musical traditions.
In addition to the multi-cultural tradition is also home to the Altai Mountain Range with its picturesque landscapes and scenery. Also throughout the Hovd region still remains in the nature countless archeological sites with petroglyphs, cave paintings and deer stone monuments that date back as far as 10,000 years. Also, camel riding by itself, is the gem of this tour. The Bactrian camel, also known as the Mongolian camel or domestic Bactrian camel, is a large even-toed ungulate native to the steppes of Central Asia. It has two humps on its back. Bactrian camels were domesticated thousands of years ago to carry goods and people across Asia. Adapted for harsh conditions, the camels can carry over 400 pounds on long journeys, withstand 100-degree Fahrenheit summers and -20-degree winters and, when nourished, go without eating and drinking for weeks. Their humps act as fat reserves for energy. In 2021, Mongolia has counted 380 thousand domestic camels. Nowadays, nomads of Mongolia still using camels for riding and move for search of new pasture for their livestock.

The harsh, dry climate has forced the wild animals of the Altai Mountains to be tough and hardy. In Altai mountains inhabit animals that listed as endangered species like the snow leopard, the argali sheep with its massive curved rams, ibex, lynxes, maral deer, falcons, foxes, golden eagle and the vulture. Many smaller animals have managed to survive in this environment including the snowcock, ringed-neck pheasant, beavers, and marmots. This tour gives you a high opportunity to see and track wild animals. The best time to see them is in the early morning and late evening. (B,L,D)
