Food and drink

Mongolia offers a delightful culinary journey that reflects its unique culture and nomadic heritage. In Ulaanbaatar, the capital city, a wide array of European, Asian, and Mongolian restaurants awaits, catering to diverse tastes with high-quality cuisine.  Ulaanbaatar boasts an impressive selection of restaurants, including vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. From cozy local eateries to upscale international establishments, the city caters to every palate, ensuring memorable dining

Outside the city, dining takes on a more rustic charm, with meals served at ger camp restaurants and local cafes in small towns and villages. In the countryside, meals are typically enjoyed at ger camp restaurants or local cafes. Ger restaurants usually offer set menus featuring hearty and flavorful dishes. While meat is a staple of Mongolian cuisine—commonly mutton, beef, or chicken—vegetarians are well accommodated at tourist ger camps, with protein-rich meals crafted to suit dietary preferences.

Ger camp breakfasts are simple yet satisfying, featuring tea, coffee, bread, jam, butter, eggs, sausages, cookies, cheese, cereals, and pancakes. Lunch and dinner often include Mongolian soups, salads, and main courses such as pasta, rice, vegetables, and meat, with fish served near lakes or rivers. Meals are finished with desserts and tea, offering a warm and wholesome experience. For camping trips, especially in Mongolia’s western regions, a professional chef accompanies the tour, preparing excellent dishes using a mobile kitchen. This ensures a fresh and varied menu even in the most remote locations.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available both in Ulaanbaatar and at tourist ger camps, but fresh vegetables may be limited in remote areas due to seasonal availability. It’s advisable to inform the team of any dietary restrictions or preferences in advance to ensure meals are tailored to your needs.

From modern city dining to the authentic charm of countryside meals, Mongolia promises a culinary adventure that complements its breathtaking scenery and rich cultural heritage.
