Yak Festival

The Yak Festival, celebrated annually in July, is one of Mongolia’s most captivating cultural events. Showcasing the significance of yaks in the lives of Mongolian herders, this festival highlights the country’s rich traditions while promoting tourism. Mongolia, home to the world’s second-largest yak population after Tibet, treasures these animals for their contributions to transportation, as well as their nutritious milk, meat, and wool.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Altai and Khangai mountains, this two-day festival offers an unforgettable blend of culture, adventure, and entertainment. Highlights include a vibrant yak parade, a yak-milking competition, thrilling rodeos, and an exciting game of yak-back polo. Visitors can marvel at the “best bedecked yak” contest and a fashion show featuring elegant garments made from yak wool. Local music, dance performances, and cultural showcases complete the experience.

The Yak Festival is more than an event—it’s a celebration of Mongolia’s nomadic heritage and an invitation to immerse yourself in the heart of its traditions. Whether you’re a culture enthusiast or an adventure seeker, this festival promises memories you’ll treasure forever.
