Discover the fascinating world of the Tsaatan people, a nomadic reindeer herding community that has thrived in the remote taiga region of northern Mongolia for millennia with BTTC Travel tour. Originally from Tuva in Siberia, the Tsaatan, or “people with reindeer,” live in harmony with their domesticated reindeer, relying on them for nearly all of life’s essentials. In this breathtaking and rugged environment, the reindeer provide milk, skins for clothing, and antlers for tools, while also serving as pack and riding animals across the taiga. Their traditional diet is supplemented by wild game, berries, and plants foraged from the pristine wilderness.
Reindeer play an integral role in the Tsaatan’s spiritual and cultural identity, shaping their lifestyle, economy, and even their language. Visiting the Tsaatan offers a rare and authentic glimpse into a unique way of life, deeply connected to the natural world and steeped in ancient traditions.
Explore the rich and ancient spirituality of the Tsaatan, a community whose way of life is deeply rooted in shamanist beliefs. For the Tsaatan, the natural world and their ancestors are sacred, and their spiritual practices center on the connection between humans, nature, and the spirit world. Shamans, chosen for their unique abilities, serve as healers, advisors, and communicators with spirits and ancestors through powerful rituals.
The Tsaatan shamans—who can be male or female, young or old—play an essential role in the community, channeling wisdom and strength from spirits, or ongots. These ancient shamanist traditions are believed to be among the oldest in the world, with roots tracing back thousands of years, giving visitors a rare glimpse into one of humanity’s most enduring spiritual practices.
Journey into the taiga and discover the timeless spirituality of the Tsaatan people, where ancient rituals, connection with nature, and the power of shamanism create an unforgettable cultural experience. Join us for an unforgettable journey to experience the last of Mongolia’s reindeer herders, where the beauty of the taiga and the warmth of the Tsaatan people will leave you with memories for a lifetime. Let the adventure of Mongolia’s northern wilderness begin with BTTC Travel.
