Mongolia is a wonderful country and travel destination, and the people there are full of hospitality. At a small airport in the middle of the Gobi desert, I sat down to finish a drawing before my flight on to Ulaanbaatar. That “airport” however was little more than a single room, where the staff girls played table tennsi to pass the time.
One of those Mongolian girls noticed the traveling artist, and asked me to draw a portrait of her as well. Soon everyone was lining up for a portrait of their own – all free of charge, of course.
The drawing I had originally worked on that day was of a Mongolian gazelle. I had started that drawing in a yurt in the middle of the Gobi desert, and it is still in my travel notebook on Mongolia, right next to the portrait of that young Mongolian woman.
